Type III Thyroplasty
The concept of the surgery is to lose the tension of vocal folds by shortening the frame of thyroid cartilage. Like a guitar string, low tensed vocal folds produce low pitched voice. This method is sometimes called 'voice deepening surgery' or 'voice muscularization surgery', and is performed for the people who want their voice pitch gets lower genderlessly.
Following local anesthesia, a 4 to 5cm of skin incision is made on the neck to expose the thyroid cartilage. 2 to 3mm of stripes are made at the 10 to 15mm lateral part from the midline of thyroid cartilage and removed. Middle and lateral side of thyroid cartilages are sutured to fix the frame. One week of voice rest following surgery is necessary.
